I have monitored the Essex EDACS system for years, and I've never heard anything on it. It seems like a terrific waste of money. As far as I know, they only use the conventional system.

I monitor the Essex Co TRS most of the time you will hear the Road Department supervisors talking on it especially when they are in winter storm mode. however Essex County roads mainly use the VHF high band system.
I've heard Essex County Department of Corrections on the TRS before as well as the County DPW and Road Department but as most other have said, it gets very little use which is a shame.
I think the Corrections Department used it more when the County Jail Annex was still in Verona, before they moved to the new facility in Newark.

the jail was never in verona, it was on the border of verona and north caldwell, but north caldwell was home for the jail until it moved to newark, Verona fire dept used to respond to the jail, but otherwise it was all NC

Is it possible that the EDACS system isn't being used because of interference from Nextel? The recent rebanding should have fixed that though, right?
