I have been running ETrunker for almost a year and I think quite successfully bur there is something I can't get my head around. Would someone please explain in plain language (for a 76 year old) what is actually happening when a caller uses Patch to a TG. This is Edmonton EDACS system.

What is the difference between

Talk Group 547 G 6046 Patrol Car
and
Talk Group Patch= 547 G 6046 Patrol Car

Thanks

For Motorola systems, the dispatcher can link two or more talkgroups together. The purpose is to allow the dispatch to speak to two different audiences as if they were one. I think the EDACS patch works in a similar manner.

ETrunker Patch

Thanks Rick, I'll try to figure it out from here. It seems that the Police Dispatcher occasionally adds another TG which does not get identified with "patch" function.

I notice that if I take the line out of my 0001ptch.txt it disappears off the screen and just becomes a TG

I'll work at it.

Thanks

Rick is right ...

This is normally used when a dispatcher is covering an area normally covered by another dispatcher.

For example in the system you are referring to the north and downtown dispatch areas will be 'put together' and one dispatcher will cover the whole area as compared to normally two dispatchers. This is normally when it is quieter .. or one dispatcher is away on a break etc.

There is really no need to change your patch file .. as it is describing what is going on. There is a 'patch' .... thus it is displayed differently. You will also notice the same when EPS patches in with the RCMP.

Hope this helps .. if not send me an email and I will explain it better for you.
