Now that it sounds like the Linn/Benton part of this system is online, the system name no longer fits.

I'd like community feedback on changing the name of the system to:

SW 7 County Interoperable Public Safety Radio System

(or some variant thereof).

Comments or suggestions welcome.

Well, it should probably be short, as some scanners have very limited display capabilities, so how about:

SW 7 Co Interop

Keeping it simple seems best.

I finally decided on:

SW 7 Co PubSafty

for my GRECOM PSR-800 because it fits nicely on my display.

I will wait another week or so for additional feedback, and if there are no further objections, the system name will be changed to "SW OR 7 County Public Safety Radio System"

Well, myself and OregonScanner provided good suggestions, after all....we live here.....but it looks like you're going to do what you want anyway.....

Why ask for feedback if you don't intend to actually use it?

Dobie050, I am not disregarding the feedback that you or OregonScanner have provided. I am bound by the Database Administrator's Handbook (and one of the things that needs to be done generally for Oregon is to bring it into full compliance with that guide, available on the wiki. I tried to find a compromise between my original offering ("SW 7 County Interoperable Public Safety Radio System"), your submission of "SW 7 Co PubSafty", and OregonScanner's "SW 7 County P25"; what I came up with was "SW OR 7 County Public Safety Radio System".

In response to your most recent post, I consulted the Database Administrator's Handbook, and found the following guidance:

RadioReference Database Administrators Handbook said:
3.6. DATABASE ENTITY NAMING POLICY
The RR database entities (e.g., frequencies, talkgroups, categories, subcategories, descriptions, alpha tags, etc.) shall never be added, removed, named, renamed or changed to adjust them for a specific device, product or consumer of RR data.

RadioReference Database Administrators Handbook said:
6.1.3. ABBREVIATIONS
Always avoid using abbreviations throughout the database to ensure clarity for all users. “EMS” is acceptable as an abbreviation wherever it is appropriate.

RadioReference Database Administrators Handbook said:
6.1.4. NAMING CONVENTIONS
Always name an agency, category, subcategory or trunked system with the clearest, most specific name that is appropriate.

RadioReference Database Administrators Handbook said:
6.3.3. SYSTEM NAMES
Public safety trunked systems shall generally be named after the primary jurisdiction (e.g., county) that the system covers or by the primary agency operating the trunked system. If a system has a specific “brand name” assigned (e.g., “Southeast Texas Area Radio Network”) then the specific name shall always be used.

After reading more documents, it appears that the system is "marketed" and/or "branded" as the "7-County Regional Interoperable(/Interoperability) Radio System", so I'm now onto a fifth name.

Okay....Now I understand much better and I apologize for any perceived offense. I am new to RR and I doubt that anyone could keep up with ALL the various rules and such. I was completely unaware that yourself gets dictated to from those higher on the totem pole than yourself, just like everywhere else. I certainly meant no disrespect and nothing personal.

Originally, Harris Radio's predecessor, made a proposal to name this system the Willamette Valley Regional Interoperability Network, as they envisioned this radio system expanding to other neighboring jurisdictions. They were looking ahead to making this part of the future OWIN TRS that was on the drawing board back then. However, Motorola ended up receiving the winning bid on this radio system.

Since this system has really grown geographically over the past few years, I was thinking that some of the following names for this radio system would be more appropriate:

  • Willamette Valley Project 25 Emergency Radio System
  • Willamette Valley Regional (P-25) Land Mobile Radio System (WVLMRS)
  • Willamette Valley Regional Public Safety Land Mobile Radio System
  • Willamette Valley Shared Public Safety LMR
  • Willamette Valley Public Safety Interoperable Radio System
In some cases the word "network" could be substituted for system. Likewise, "Southwest Oregon" could be used in place of Willamette Valley.

I'm not sure the folks in Florence consider themselves part of the Willamette valley.

Neither do the people in Douglas, Coos, Curry, and Josephine Counties which are also part of the SW 7 Radio Group. Joe, I think the name you came up with sounds fine.

Oh ***** I already named it Willamette in both of my XTS5000's, oh well I'll just leave it as is.

All of the sites, UHF and 700MHz, sound good North of Salem on Motorola HT's BTW.

I'm not convinced it's the same system. I'm willing to bet the system in Linn and Benton Counties is different than the system in Lane County. The only thing similar is the BEE00 marker. However there are other BEE00 systems around the country. I think the Linn-Benton System needs to be separated from the Lane System. Unless anyone can convince me otherwise, I can't find documentation that the two systems are somehow linked. I believe the 7 SW moniker is a hold over from the original OWIN proposal. Looking for feedback.

Well from what I have been told the system is using the Lane county controller for everything, Did monitor some trafic on one of the Interop talkgroups today (20701) in Corvallis.

Stopped by the Albany Radio Shack and the still have a Pro18, and 197 in stock. Also got a 396xt and dummy HomePatrol on display

Although WACN BEE00 is the default Motorola WACN, remember that P25 systems are identified by their WACN, *AND* SYSID.

The Linn/Benton 700 MHz system sites are satellite sites of the Lane County 450 MHz. Down to the WACN and SYSID.

Okay, thanks for the info. Unbelievably silly to link the systems to the switch down there.
