Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Greetings,
I'm looking to see if anyone has any user experience with the DP3000e series of Mototrbo portables. Currently my team has a variety of EX560's and EX600's. While small and decently rugged, they are reaching then end of their useful lives. We're looking to replace the portable radios with something similar in size in the UHF R2 band as well as gaining the DMR abilities. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you for that tip on the chargers! You wouldn't happen to know if they use the same battery as well?

While this series was not offered here in the USA, there are a number of sellers based in the US on that famous internet auction site selling them. I would guess given their age and appearance, are they from the same family as the XPR7550? Does that in turn mean they could use Mototrbo CPS as opposed to CPS 2? Are there any regional restrictions for Trbo CPS as there was with the Waris Professional Series?

I know they were roughly the same size battery, but I never had both at the same time to be able to compare so I can't say for certain.

The DP3661e is essentially a baby XPR7550e. Same CPS, and it uses the same accessories as the XPR3x00 series. Yes CPS 16 has region restrictions, but theres ways around it with some internet searching

Would a similar regional situation exist with CPS 2? I'm new to the MotoTrbo world, but did update my Solutions account to request CPS 2 access.

If these are going to be used for FCC part 90 use, they may not be legal. I am not sure if Motorola bothered to get FCC certs on these. If someone could look on the label and see if they have an FCC ID, that could put this to bed. Same if you want to use them on GMRS under Part 95.

Of course no such restrictions on amateur.

It know you might be budget constrained, but the SL3500 (and SL3500 MAX) seems to be a decent shorter range radio for our onsite customers.

Thank you for bringing up the Part 90 certification, as indeed we would be using this within the business bands. It looks like our "small" Analog/DMR portable choice may have to lean towards something like the Tait TP3350 or the R5.

We're currently sampling the SL3500e. While it's form factor is nice, the carry options aren't very robust and we're not as pleased about the reception on our current analog repeater channels. On the DMR side, it seems fine on the repeater channel but simplex performance is somewhat hit or miss in our environments. Also, the battery life obviously leaves a bit to be desired.

CPS2 is region free
Thank you for clarifying any region locks for CPS 2.
