I have just acquired an EX600 (same as GP388/GP338Plus) which is the "smaller" version of the HT1250.
After I programmed the radio, it appeared to be working OK on both RX and TX. I then set the radio scanning but when I checked the radio after a couple of hours the receive side was not working. Symptoms were as follows:
- When I opened the squelch, you could hear white noise but it did not sound 100% correct...but anybody else might think that it sounded OK...it was basically still white noise but with a bit of an extra rumble.
- when I transmitted a test signal from another radio, nothing was received on the EX600...all you could hear was the same white noise (with the SQ open) but you did hear a "clunk" when you initially pressed the PTT on the test radio. However, when you "shouted" into the test transmitter, you could hear some splatter on the EX600 with the SQ open.
- the TX side of the EX600 continued to work 100%
- before I noticed that the EX600 was not receiving, the battery low alert had been sounding. However, the receive side still did not work when I used fully charged battery.
- I powered down the EX600 for 15 minutes. When I powered up again, the receiver was working OK and has since continued to work OK for 6 hours??
Maybe its a problem with the 2nd LO Xtal which might have gone off freq for some reason (lazy Xtal, leaky cap). Maybe the simultaneous low battery alert and scanning caused some kind of processor crash...but the problem did not immediately disappear when I rebooted. I had to wait 15 minutes.
Any ideas?
