To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I have a Moto EX600XLS Portable Radio. Right now, when I am in a certain bank, when I go into scan mode, it scans all banks. For example when I am in my EMS bank, I receive stuff on my Fire channels. How do I make it so the radio only scans the channels in the current bank?

Thanks

It scans whatever scan list is associated with whatever particular channel you happen to be on. The scan list appears to be setup to scan channels from another zone. Lists can be programmed to scan whatever you want them to.

Do you have a Scan List Program setting in the menu? If not, you'll have to use the CPS to program your list(s).

Yeah, I have CPS and I use it to program it, however some channels that are in my fire bank are also in my EMS bank. The dispatch channel is the same for both fire and EMS. However my town's EMS and Fire depts. have different ops channels, that I want separated. When I scan my EMS bank, I don't want my fire channel to open. How should I arrange my scan list's so this can work? Is there a bank scan mode? where it only scans the bank?

Thanks

You have to create a scan list for each channel. Go to the scan list part of the tree, make a new list, go to your channel where you input all the frequency stuff, go to the scan tab and change the list number too the new one you made.

Well, there is no explicit zone scan mode, per se. What you can do is have one scan list tied to your Fire zone (e.g. Scan List 1) that only contains channels you want to be scanning then and have a second scan list tied to your EMS zone (e.g. Scan List 2) that only scans those channels.

From the Tree in CPS, go to Scan, create two separate lists as described above then go to the Conventional Personalities. On your Fire channels, assign their scan lists to your Fire list and on your EMS channels, assign their scan lists to the second list.

Tommy,

You mentioned that your dispatch channel is common to both fire and ems. You may have to create two identical personalities for that. Assign one of them to your Fire scan list and the other to your EMS scan list. You'll have to name them so you know which is which; something like DISP F and DISP E.

Then you just select whichever you're working, and the radio uses the desired scan list.

There may be a simpler or better way to do this, but this should work pretty well. If anyone has another idea, we're all ears.
