Not sure if it was just good band conditions today, or what, but I usually lose the DPS system as I pass through Weatherford (especially dropping behind the ridge on the west side of town) and today it was good and strong all the way to Clinton then south to Hobart.

I didn't pay a whole lot of attention going out this morning, but coming back this afternoon I found a rather eclectic collection of talkgroups on the system I was listening to. Didn't think to check which frequencies I was hearing until after I hit Weatherford, at that point it was all Geary. Can't believe I'd be hearing Geary from Hobart, likelier to be Cooperton. If so, their coverage areas meshed well with very little loss of signal even in the low spots.

But Geary was transmitting a bunch (everything?) from the Lawton area - Lawton PD/FD, Comanche County PD/FD - as well as Troop A rural (not too surprising), Capitol patrol (more surprising) and Turner 1 (really surprising). Needless to say, it was quite a busy node even while carrying absolutely nothing from its own area! :p

Maybe they were doing some work and just turned on a bunch of things to see how it was going? Dunno how that works... Seemed like an odd assortment of groups to have enabled.

Sure made the drive less boring, that was nice! Gotta go back tomorrow - be interesting to see which site I'm actually hearing in Hobart, and perhaps just when they switch...

Must have been conditions yesterday! Not so good today. As usual, Geary petered out at Weatherford. Just occasional bits from hilltopping past that. The hilltopping switched to Cooperton around Clinton, and I finally got a decent signal from there as I approached Rocky.

So a nice big boring gap in the middle of the drive... :p Oh well...

You might have been hearing the Mt. Baker tower, I hear it all the time in Elk City, I do hear geary from weatherford on I-40, but it usually fades before clinton. Glad to know you had good conditions. Enjoy!

I've had the same experience with site 8.. with it dropping out somewhere between Bristow & Kellyville near Tulsa. And that was on my portable.. just a rubber duckie antenna! Other times, I'd be lucky to hear site 8 just east of Chandler.

Something has been boosted, possibly system-wide. This week I've been picking up site 8 farther south and site 40 farther northwest than normal.

Part of that may be conditions. Saturday morning I was receiving a 443.700 repeater from the DFW area on a little radio in the shack with a magmount antenna on my bench.

I agree that there may have been some maintenance done on multiple sites. The Carney site no longer has a click after TX release and it seems to be coming in better than before. The Guthrie site is about the same but full quieting also it has a rebanded frequency now showing up. I think the techs have been out doing some maintenance. Enjoy...

It also appears that the new equipment has been installed at the Lexington site. They are not having the dropped audio problems any more from what I hear.
