I heard the Excise Police speaking with the Purdue Police Department this evening. I imagine they are looking to raid some partys.

I have inputed several frequencies that I found in the database, and selected ID-Search. Every time it stops on a trunk ID its nothing but white-noise / machine gunning. Are the channels encrypted or what?

Love to listen in on the raids.

What you are heraring is what digital transmissions sound like on an analog only capable scanner (your signature idicates you have a BC246T which is an analog only scanner). Excise uses the SAFE-T system which is a mixed mode (analog & digital) system and it is mostly digital talkgroups (Excise talk groups are analog). You will need a digital capable scanner to monitor most of the other SAFE-T transissions. I believe they left Excise analog because they have to work with agencies that may not have digital capabilities (just a guess). FYI, the analog talk groups are indicated by an "A" in the "Mode" column (D=Digital) in the RR database. I believe analog talk groups are pretty much limited to Mutual Aid, Excise, INDOT, some SEMA groups, and other misc. state agencies channels.

ahhh ok, I figured since the excise were "A" groups that I would be able to pick them up on my 246. I bet they will be really busy today with the grand prix going!

I was holding off for a 996, but I reckon I might just have to get a 396.
