Uniden continues to hit the mark as the go to authority on Communication receivers and their associated technology. Once again they hit a homerun with the SDS series radios.
That was until I loaded some conventional systems along with my P25 phase 2 systems.
Why is it so difficult to incorporate some audio consistency with previous models and now the flagship sounds like its struggling to show some kind of (non tinny) audio on conventional systems, even with a JBL Amplified speaker.
I really do not want to return this unit for a refund and I suppose it will never sound as (solid state) as my Unication G5 but come on folks!
Since my first Fanon, Regency, Bearcat and finally Uniden Handhelds I have owned since the 1970's and 1980's to present, this one sounds like someone talking through 2 tin cans with a string on CONVENTIONAL systems.
It wins the award for the worst sounding scanner on the planet, even with a JBL amplified speaker which nsounds amazing on my Uniden 436 and my Whistlers.
So why?
Lets just make the most sophisticated scanner in the world that we all have been waiting for and forget about the cheap, tinny, non intelligible audio on conventional systems, EVEN WITH A QUALITY AMPLIFIED SPEAKER.
So now what?
I don't want to send it back or should I?
Uniden owns the market and should be highly commended for innovation and product development. How about an Audio Upgrade to go along with the DMR, Pro Voice etc.
I would gladly pay it and at this point since even though an amplified speaker still sounds like crap on this model and no others, I would be willing to wait it out until they release an audio mod.
If no one elses SDS-100 sounds like tinny, weak scratchy no power audio on non P25 systems then maybe its me.
