Do the new digital scanners allow you to listen to digital cell phones?

Also, there was a time you could simply clip a diode to listen to cellular phones. Is this still possible or have the manufacturers made it impossible to do that?

No, they are designed for APCO25 compliant digital radio systems only. They only work on those systems. See http://www.project25.org for more info.

Nope. The ECPA of 1986 prohibits the reception of cellular traffic and the FCC will not issue type acceptance to any scanner that can be easily modified for cellular.

Well, in that case, are there any frequency converters you can use?

Or, are there any plans on available to make one yourself?

Why would most of us want them? There's almost no analog cell phone signals left, at least in California, and there's no scanner, Canadian version or not, that can decode digital cell phone signals. Listening to cell calls ceased to be interesting a long time ago.

With apologies

Some folks seem to love to break, or tempt us in the States to break federal laws,.. Hmmm interesting...... Once again for those not paying attention it is against United States Federal Law vias the ECPA as ammended to intentionally intercept phone conversations including cellular.

Canadian versions of these radios have cellular. It makes me feel like buying them and reselling them to Americans.

Thanks for giving the feds proof of premeditation of your crime.

Why not just skip the middlemen and rob a bank?

My anger over stupid laws that affect radios. I mean if you want to buy a receiver with everything, you want everything, not just parts of it because some powerful lobbyists got their way in Washington.
Why are you all acting like pussies?
