Well, it appears that the incident is not in HFD's territory, and that's the last I heard of it. If your friend happens to know about STARNET, you might want to tell him to listen to that.

There are, however, three fires working across the city. Two are house fires, and one is an apartment fire. The largest fire (a house fire) is working off of TAC 7.
I originally heard about it when several aircraft around Houston told Houston Center controllers about seeing a "large fireball" in North Houston. I logged onto the HFD feed I listen to. Initially, several HFD stations reported seeing the smoke and fire. After that, at least on the HFD end, it was quiet.
It was in Cy-Fair VFD's territory. Cy-Fair, West I10, Katy, Monaville and Cy-Creek responded, maybe Westlake too. A 48" gas line exploded. Cy-Fair's dispatch said they heard or felt the explosion. It was at 529 and Fry. I could see a big plume of smoke from Fairbanks and 290. Nobody was injured and no property was damaged.
Yeah, that was definitely interesting. I got REALLY excited when I heard an aircraft report it to Houston Center on 128.075. This was followed a few minutes later by additional reports. Center was actually directing aircraft to divert around the blast. According to the Houston Chronicle, a witness near the blast said that it was accopanied by a loud roaring sound similar to a jet engine. Also, according to the paper, it was so hot in the immediate area around the blast that SO deputies could not get within a half-mile of the site.
