I have my unit plugged into an old IHome speaker for MP3 players and it works ok but it runs off of 4 AA batteries and I have to take the batteries out every day and charge them,is there an external speaker on the market that will just plug in and work that I don't need to recharge batteries?

Does it need to be an amplified speaker with batteries, or will a regular speaker work? If you must have one with batteries, the only thing I could suggest is finding a "wall wort" with the right voltage and connecting that in place of the batteries. If one w/o batteries will work, there are several communication-grade speakers out there that are pretty good or --as I've done--I'll just get ahold of one of those small(-ish) bookshelf stereo speakers that works even better. (Or the cheapskate route: a loose speaker placed on top of an empty Kleenex box that makes a good baffle.) Or another cheap route: home-made amp/EQ like what's discussed in the July 2002 issue of QST magazine, pages 53-4, article titled "Improving Audio at the Other End".

If its gonna be in the house or near ac power, use an amplified PC speaker..
The audio out jack is line level, not able to drive more than a small earpiece.
