External antenna for psr 800

For home use are you better off upgrading the scanners antenna or going with a rooftop antenna. What would you suggest for better reception.

You don't give enough information to make an informed guess. Kinda depends upon distance to the towers you want to listen to, height of the antennas on those towers, elevations of the towers and house, material used in the construction of the house (interior and exterior), what floor you're on, terrain features/objects between your targets and your house, trees, and the list goes on. You get the idea. Today's scanners are pretty sensitive. Try the supplied antenna for a few weeks or a month, perhaps in different locations in the house, and then decide. HTH.

Tom covered the questions pretty well but the frequencies you want to listen to make a large difference as well. Higher frequencies penetrate buildings better than lower frequencies generally.
