But did you guys know you can plug the sds100 into a external power without the battery in it I was able to do that with my bc125at. Will this damage the device

It will not damage it. I never tried it, but the top port (micro USB) can be used to power the device without recharging.

If the SDS is anything like the Bcd436Hp, you may not be able to record without the battery installed and other functions may not work.

There is also a risk of corrupting the SD card if you lose power to it before shutting it down...
When the scanner is turned off it writes back to the SD card... Without the battery it can't do that...

That seems to occur mostly (always?) if you're recording to the SD card.

I rarely do any recording to the card... But the times I do I never had any problems...
But there are some who have had problems with the card corrupting I guess...

The sds100 on battery 2 that I have does go down to 3.20 volts before it dies
