The Uniden BC23A speaker is amplified, but requires a power source.

I am using the Uniden BC20 external speaker (at a stationary location), but it is not amplified. It plugs in to the external speaker port in the back and that is how its powered, requiring no other source. The 536 does give it enough juice to make it considerably louder. I have come across others who have used it in a vehicle setting so it may be loud enough for you depending on the setup. Below is an example:

Speakers in scanners overcoming road noise is challenging. Over the years I've had several different model scanners and found amplified speakers are beneficial. Presently I have the BC23A and like it Previously I used Radio Shack's amplified speaker.

Keep in mind the HP-x series does not have an external speaker jack. The amplified speaker will be required. And all amplified speakers require power.

And just to clarify for jlynch4614..... the 536hp does have an external speaker jack on the backside. Voyager was referencing HomePatrol-1 and 2.

My Land Rover Freelander radio has an 3.5mm audio input jack. How much power would you like :)
