Ok guys, who's got the best speaker for more bass response out there? I've got the new Uniden speaker with the bear claw on the grill and it's just not doing it for me.

I'm using an extra speaker from an old surround sound system.Used some old computer speaker cable and spliced it into the speaker. Sounds amazing.

WoW that's pretty cool. I don't think that's going to work in my truck though. LoL

What the heck, maybe I'll try it.

There is a fly in the ointment however. Radio systems restrict audio to he voice range 300Hz to 3,000Hz with the exception of "sub-audible" PL tones so you won't hear what isn't there to begin with. About all a speaker with more bass response will accomplish is make the PL tone audible unless your receiver filters it out and with narrow banding the audio is even more restricted. For what it's worth I use a Motorola speaker for communications effectiveness, that's what they are designed for; hearing voice that would otherwise be lost in the sauce.

I also use Moto brand speakers, and they are A+ in my opinion.

Well I think I'm going to hunt one down then and give it a try. Wonder if I could find one of the cool old vintage Motorolas from the 70s? Remember the white metal case ones? Those looked pretty cool.

i have a bunch of the old metal Moto speakers at the shop. even have a few with teh volume control knob on them, one is new in box! we tossed a bunch of them because they were so beat up, now i wish we had just sold them on ebay. even had the '60's era base mic like the one used in "The Andy Griffith Show", i think there are still a couple of them on the shelf.

we actually have one of the metal Motrac speakers with volume control on it hooked to our MCS 2000 base. the MCS audio won't turn down enough for our needs in the service room, so we used that speaker to be able to pad it further. it gives good crisp audio at all levels too.

Funny you should mention metal cased Moto speakers, I'm using one on my BC796D and it sounds better than the new plastic Slim Line (tm) speakers. Well, maybe that's because the enclosure is a bit larger and my lining it with 1/4" thick fiberglass (the rear vents are also covered) eliminated the slight metallic ringing sound.

"even had the '60's era base mic like the one used in "The Andy Griffith Show""
Hmmm, don't remember that but the prop man for the show didn't know his arse from a hole in the ground. The "base station" consisted of an Eico 720 75W CW ham transmitter with a Heathkit "lunchbox" Twoer sitting on top of it. You never saw Andy talking on the mobile rig and never saw inside the patrol car, he made all his calls by telephone! "Hello, Sara?" (;->)
