F-70 P25 Conventional Programming

I’m a Motorola guy, so go easy on me.. lol.

I’ve got an F-70DS, I have CS-F70/F1700 Version 2.2 with the proper model (Portable LMR, P25 Conventional Enabled). However, I am having difficulties locating where I can set a P25 channel to simulcast. The channel I am trying to listen to in question is a P25 simulcast conventional frequency. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not a definitive answer, but some of the earlier ICOM's "automatically" chose between C4FM and CQPSK...and it didn't work very well. Not sure if this model falls into that category or not though.

I appreciate the response. I’m building the codeplug now, and waiting for the unit to arrive. Only one way to find out. I guess, lol

There is no such setting. F70's use older vocoders so they -can- have trouble with simulcast. Anything newer like the 9000 or 7000 series use newer AMBE+2

So I am assuming Kevin is correct that it will decode simulcast automatically, it just may not do it well?

That's correct. I have about 50 in use with LSM with no issues reported to date.

They are good radio's, they just work and hold up well. This particular agency would buy more if they still made them so that gotta tell you something, and they had these along with XTS2500's until LSM. Good luck!

Got it all programmed. Pretty good portable for the price. P25 sounds pretty crisp, despite the older decoder. I will say that the volume is a bit lackluster, but overall I agree with what you said “they just work and hold up well” I do need to figure out the squelch settings. It seems to pick up a lot of stuff and the green “reception” light is constantly on. Maybe setting tight squelch will solve that.
