• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity.     To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I've looked online and I haven't had much luck but where can I find the programing software for the radio at? I work for the local sheriff's department and I have this radio in my unit and when I have anything changed on it I have to wait on the service guy in town to free space to get to my car, but I was just going to get the software and do it from my computer at home so I won't have to wait anymore. Also what cable will I need? I have one that I think will fit but I'm not sure what end I'll need, I haven't taken the radio and tried looking for a plug, I just bought it and had it installed. Thanks for the help guys.

You can buy the cable and software online from any Icom dealer. Asking for software here or links to free copies is not allowed.

Oh ok got ya, now tell me about the cable you need cause I think I have one that will work. Mine has three ends. One end has like a VGA looking plug and that one part splits into two other cables, one of them is a ethernet looking plug and then the other end is like a standard speaker plug. If im not mistaking this radio using the speaker plug for unit and then you plug the vga looking end into your computer right? If somebody would share any information on this for me id be thankful.

That's not an original Icom cable, so your results will vary. The VGA-looking connector is a DB9 Serial Connector, which connects to your computer. Most newer computers don't have a Serial Connector, so you may need a USB to Serial converter. The radio needs the speaker plug.

The software you need is CS-F121.

BE CAREFUL: Messing with official radios is a nice way to get yourself fired. Don't say I didn't warn you.

ok i figured it was the speaker plug, I got an older computer that has that vga like serial thing, but i might go ahead and buy the newer cable anyways. The radio doesnt belong to the sheriff I bought it and had it installed in my unit, were allowed to add features to our cars, the one that was in their was a old junker. I just had all my lights replaced with LEDs so I could be seen from far away lol, so now im upgrading all the radio gear and etc.... Thanks for the help.

thats what i did, i found a cable that would work with my radio for $2.87 on ebay.
