• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I installed a Midland GMRS radio in my friends new F250. I got power from the upfitter switches. sitting in the driveway no problems. Noticed that as soon as the gear shifter was put in reverse or drive the radio started receiving static. No problems in neutral or park. We had to turn the squelch way up in order not to hear the static. I'm guessing maybe some sensor is on or near the same frequency. Have you heard of this? I'm wondering if I get power directly from the battery, will this cure this problem?

What did you route the antenna cable around? If it's reverse only, you could have routed it near the circuits for backup sensors, backup cameras or just the reverse lamp lighting, all of which could cause interference. Also, if you ran it within 6"-12" of a body control module, it can cause issues as well.

We used the rubber grommet in the firewall. Put the extra antenna cable under the console. It was reverse and drive. We even turned off the reverse sensor but it didn't make a difference. Neutral and park no problem.

Disconnect the antenna cable at the radio and see if the issue still exists...

Put the extra antenna cable under the console.

Don't do that. Could be absorbing noise from all the wiring under the dash. Cut the coax to just the length you need to get between the antenna and the radio. If you cannot do that, then at least stretch it out away from the dash.

Try pulling your power directly off the battery. Or, try powering it off a stand alone battery and see if noise goes away. If it does, then noise is getting in via your power wiring.

Try disconnecting the antenna, or using an antenna in a different locations and see what helps.

What year truck, what engine, etc?
Where is the antenna located, and how, exactly, did you mount it?

1) Where is the antenna mounted and what kind of antenna?

2) Try getting power temporarily from an unswitched point on the fuse box. Or the battery + lead.

3) Where is radio grounded? t should be directly to the frame/unibody steel.
