I got the freq 172.175 from the Wiki as a FAA freq. I have been hearing the attached at least a few times a day. what is it? am I hearing something else and not FAA? apparently there is a FAA facility around where I am.

I could be wrong here, but isn't that one of the Transportation Security Admin freqs? I'm pretty sure it's in that range of freqs....73s Mike

It sounds like some kind of telemetry or control signal. Are you near an airport?
I have heard something similar on 139.65 at Sheppard AFB that sent a series of tones several times a minute and NASJRB Ft Worth had something that just made one tone every once in a while.

DFW airport has a bunch of telemetry type stuff on
162.3
162.325
165.7625
406.25
410.3
410.075
410.95
Some of those are supposed to be FAA frequencies.
410.95 is also used at Sheppard AFB and Mineral Wells airport.

Could be a wind shear alert system.

BTW, the FAA is not military.

yeah, I know FAA is not military but no one seemed to listen when I suggested a Federal Gov't form so I thought this was the closest. :)

yeah, I am near a small airport that does mostly military flights.

172.175 MHZ is not a Transportation Security Administration frequency. TSA freqs can be found in the RR Wiki section, and the list is accurate.

Several years ago 172.175 used to be part of the FAA's NARACS radio system as F-10 simplex.
