Hi guys,
Took delivery of a batch of (4) XTS 2500 portables last December for our firehouse and as of last week all 4 have started displaying a "FAIL 001" message on screen.
Contacted our dealer, he says they have to go back to Motorola. He also added that if they were modified at all using bootleg CPS software, Motorola would be able to detect such reprogramming and charge for the repair.
Is this true? I honestly cannot verify the validity of the software used to reprogram them, it was done by an acquaintance that knows more about this stuff than I do. I should note that the options in the radio that were changed were minor (added some trunking calling lists, some MDC personalities, and some simplex frequencies). The radios were not taken out of band and no features that were not loaded by Motorola were added. If the version of his CPS was a copied version, will Motorola actually be able to pick up on that just by reading the radio?
For those of you saying "it was the reprogramming that's throwing the Fail code dummy" I have already confirmed it is not, all 4 of the radios from this particular batch are exhibiting the symptoms while only 2 of them were modified after original programming.
Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to offer
