I've been watching used IC-R30s on Ebay.

What would you consider a fair price for one? Seems like prices range from $750-1200.

Most of what I see are from Japanese sellers. I have no problems buying from a Japanese seller as I've had good luck with this before. Of course, the usual cautions about buying from an Ebay listing apply.

Any problems using a JA-spec R30 in North America? Would it have any weird missing frequencies due to the differences between Japanese and USA laws/rules about receivers?

Thanks.

Don't know for certain, but my understanding is that there will likely be differences re frequency coverage between the Japanese and US IC-R30s.

Re used IC-R30 asking prices, I guess it's how badly you want to own this receiver.

Compared my newly purchased TH-D75 to my IC-R30s in the military aviation RF region.
The IC-R30 is more sensitive, receiving weak signals where the TH-D75's squelch didn't open.

A concern that I have heard is - the R30 is going to come with language set to Japanese instead of English which could make it tough to use, however there is a language option in the settings to switch it to English. You might be able to step thru the menu system carefully by counting how many times to move down the menu system to get to that option by looking at English version of the manual. Also if you use a programming software package, it would likely be easy to switch languages.

A technique I've used on other Japanese-market Icoms.

There is one for sale in the for sale section. Its expensive but it is the best handheld receiver on the market AND not manufactured anymore. As Palmerjrusa said, supply and demand determines the price. I paid $650 for my second one used. Can't remember what I paid for my new one but think $599.00. IF I would decide to sell one, it would be around 8-900 bucks, depending on what is going on in the world.

I really wanted one so about a month ago I paid 700 for a very good condition one BUT it did not have Box or manual!
It did have the AA Battery Holder. It was too much but it was closest to what I wanted!

I paid 900$ CAD in 2019 for a new one from Radioworld. I would certainly not pay that amount for a used one.

The above is where being an Android smartphone user comes in great as you can use Google Lens to do real time translation from Japanese->English. Amazingly easy to use.

Hello, I was thinking of listing my Canadian ver. IC-R30 on ebay. It comes with a new case , bluetooth Headset VS-3 as well as new double A battery case. I have an R20 that serves me well and have found out the R30 is too much receiver for my area in Canada. What would a good price be for this unit?

Since the R30 is not manufactured anymore and its the best handheld receiver on the market, you can ask a premium. Depends how bad one wants one. I grabbed a second one last year and paid a little more than my new one. I wouldn't pay more than $750.00 myself. Start high, then drop if no takers.

Does the Canadian version come with a vial of maple syrup? ;)

When you get ready to sell, contact me by direct message (aka, "conversation"). I might be interested if we can work out shipment over the border and customs.
