Fairfax County Fire and Police Frequency Changes?

I monitor their fire and police channels but tonight I'm not getting anything and I know it's not my scanner because other agencies nearby that I monitor are coming in fine.

Does anyone know if Fairfax County changed some or all of their frequencies today (Wed 5/16/12)?

Please don't tell me that they've gone with encryption like DC did!!

Is Fairfax County PD back on line ?

Just wondering if they are up and running again. I noticed they were down during the day, (I listen at work), and it is kind of tough hearing them from home, Just wondering if they'll be back tommorrow, or if I have to wait for new freqs to be posted on RR.

Thanks

Oh, it had me scared there for a min (and a thousand dollars worth of useless radios-lol) But yes, I also noticed the Radio Tech's on the air much of the day so I figured they were tweaking something. However I am not aware of Fairfax considering encrypting. At least not 100%

I was listening yesterday when they went off line. The Ffx City Dispatch advised all units to switch to BU channel 14, what ever that is. I'm quite sure they moved a bunch of TGs from the old system to the P25. They also tweaked the tramsmitters. My decode rate in Pro96Com has nearly doubled and the reception is improved. Everyone is back on line this morning. Now we all need to update the RR data.

Back to Normal :)

It looks like everything is back online now. I was monitoring fire and police dispatch channels this morning normally. Also, every morning at 7:00, the fire dispatcher announces what engine and medic units are out of service for that day. This morning, in addition to that announcement, she said that the "primary radio _____?______" had been replaced overnight. It sounded like the third word was "interface" but I'm not sure.

Anyway, whatever they replaced doesn't seem to have affected any of the frequencies I listen to (I didn't have to reprogram anything on my PSR-800). Maybe they were just moving over some TG's to the P25 system like "cpetraglia" said.

Sure glad they're not encrypting anything...let's hope it stays that way.

One thing I have noticed is that sometimes when units are on the new system they are simulcasted on the old system. The dispatcher RID is the typical unique ID on the old system but the RID for all the units, PD and FD, is 65520. Seems that one console is handling all the traffic for the simulcasting of units but the dispatchers are separate.

I scan with a PSR-800 so I don't think this info would show up for me...but they are definitely on a new and different system now. Good luck figuring out what they're doing!

There's a setting that can be enabled to have the scanner show the radio ID of the transmitting station... I think it will only show the number though, not any alpha label you may have set in the EZ-Scan software.

I have been using Pro96Com for some time now and building the database on the P25 system. We are up to 19 freq., 187 TGs, and 3844 radio IDs. I show two freqs that dont make any sense. 851.10000 & 852.96250/1. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks, Chuck

Cool, thanks! I'll play around with that. So far I'm really happy with how everything works on the PSR-800!
