What hardware is required to mount an ST2 antenna to a false chimney? My chimney is wood frame and covered with vinyl siding.

Unless your chimney is built better than most, I wouldn't recommend doing that. If it is very sold, depending on the internal wood framing, a wall mount might work...but again, only if it is really sturdy. The ones I've seen on some of these new houses will probably fall down in five years without an antenna mounted on them!

I would recommend locating it off of the face of an eave adjacent to the chimney...provided that the eave is solid enough. You could get a mast long enough to extend above the top of the chimney stack for line of site clearance. Just get a set of heavy duty eave mounting hardware and a good mast.

Provided you could locate the 2x4's in the frame, and bolt the brackets directly into them using long lag bolts, and put a good distance between the mounts (at least 3 feet), then you might be ok. Again, provided the frame of the fake chimney is very solid!

This is the type of mount I'm referring to:

Thanks for your response. If I go with the mount to the chimney what is the maximum height I should use?

My house is new construction and I am pretty sure that it is two by four framed covered with pressed board. The height is at least four feet high.

I wouldn't go with more than a ten foot mast, with as I said, at least three feet of it in the mounts. And don't just screw those mounts into the press board...it won't hold.

Hi all,

You're failing to consider what the "chimney" frame is fastened to and how. You're also overlooking the obvious, it's only for show and not built to support anything but itself.
