AURORA - Around 3 a.m. Sunday morning, police responded to a call of an armed individual outside the Boll-E Ana motel near Colfax and Peoria.
When Aurora police officers arrived on the scene, they were confronted by a man with a knife.
Officers ordered the man to drop the knife, but he refused and then approached the police, that's when the officers opened fire, killing the suspect.
The man is described as a white male, 40 to 50 years old, his name has not been released.
The male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officers involved in the fatal shooting, were not injured, and they have been placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The identities of all officers involved will not be released by Aurora police.
In addition to officers' accounts, police investigators will also be interviewing several independent witnesses
