One person was killed and another critically injured after their
vehicle hit a guardrail near South Academy Boulevard and Bradley
Road, said Lt. Clif Northam of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
The 9:30 p.m. crash occurred after a sheriff's deputy pursued the
vehicle in a chase reaching speeds of more than 100 mph, Northam said.
The driver of the vehicle apparently had refused to pull over for a
traffic stop, Northam said.
Two people were in the vehicle, and both were ejected, he said. One
was taken to the hospital in critical condition. It wasn't clear if
the driver or passenger died, and their names were not released.
