I have heard that the volunteer fire departments in Faulkner County are going to be going DMR soon. What would be the best way to decode the traffic once they make the switch? Would an SDR with software be good for this? I have heard some DMR traffic already using an analog only scanner. Has anyone else heard of this?

What do you mean by you've heard some DMR traffic using an analog scanner? You've heard the motoboat sound, you mean?

Personally, I would use a scanner capable of decoding DMR traffic, program in the frequencies and run it in DMR discovery mode (meaning, set to DMR and then to 'search' the color code, slot, etc.). Then keep a log and, after you have what you feel is most of it documented, do a submission to the RR db on here for them to update the entries for it/them. But, yes you can use an SDR, as well, if you know how to set that up to decode DMR and whatever. Same end result pretty much.

Yeah I’ve heard the digital data sound/stream. I use the SDR with SDR trunk to monitor AWIN so I’m sure I could figure out the dmr side of things. I will update as I find info on the new channels.
