Anyone know what frequency the Fauquier Co. school buses are using? I haven't heard anything on the Schools talkgroups in the trunked system (well, maybe minimal activity, but definitely not day-to-day bus operations). When I saw a bus last year, it had a black 800 MHz band antenna, but it looked more like the old mobile phone antennas one would see on a car than a two-way radio antenna. Maybe they're using Nextel...?

Thanks,
Dave

The old Nextel antennas, being 700 MHz, are longer than 850 MHz antennas - which function for any service on the frequency - cellular or PS. (They're all on the same section of the same band - that's what rebanding is all about.)

FWIW, at work, all of our permanantly mounted PD and FD antennas are the 800MHz gain style that look like the old-school cell phone antennas.

There are no radios in Fauquier Co. School District buses. As odd as that may seem!

rbuxton,

Thanks for the info. Do you know if they are going to migrate to the Schools talkgroups on the trunked system?

Sorry. I don't know. I think I'll send an e-mail to my school board representative to find out. I'll post the answer.

Answer from Schools Superintendent

Mr. Sinclair,

All buses are equipped with cell phones in case of an emergency.

Mr. Buxton:

Thank you for your communication. I am aware that a number of busses do have cell phones and I believe radios. However, to give you specific information I'm forwarding this email to our division superintendent of schools, Dr. Martin. Dr. Martin will make contact with you and give you the information which you have requested.

Thank you,

Bob Sinclair

Subject: School Bus Radios

Mr. SInclair:

My name is Randall Buxton. I have two children in Fauquier Co. schools. (Ritchie and Auburn.)

I was wondering if there is any plan/proposal/thoughts to install radios into the Fauquier County School District buses?

Thanks.

Randall Buxton

I did hear the schools participating in a tornado drill on TG 26640 a while back.

There was a story in the Times-Democrat this past Wednesday about a surplus in the schools budget and that the Superintendent proposes (among other things) to put trunked system radios into the school buses.
