Hello,

For an 800 MHz ASTRO SmartZone System, this system is very powerful :!: I can decode it with Trunker many, many miles to the north in Delaware!

It is so strong, my 785 and 796 can't lock onto the CC for NCCo. Delaware system, which uses 868.7125, the CC for the Fauquier County System, as a voice channel.

If you can, please tell somebody to turn it down a little! :D I have heard of 800 MHz Skip, but this takes the case!

For the DB Administrator: 868.5500 is an alternate CC.

Wish I Could Hear It

This is very interesting information considering that I have a home in the Middleburg area of Fauquier County and can just barely pick up a signal. (This is not a remote area). I have been hoping that since the system is not totally on line yet, that maybe they still have a tower or two that have not been "turned on." But I am beginning to believe that they have installed a system that does not have complete coverage.

Anyhow, I am glad to hear that someone is getting good reception even if it is in another state!

Thanks for the info,

BL

Hello,

The system is strong during the early morning hours on the weekends. The system administrator may have done some tuning during this time. I have picked up P25 comms on some conventional 800 MHz frequencies Delaware uses as Talk Arounds and was wondering where the comms were coming from.

It is difficult to decode with Trunker due to the datastream being interupted by IMBE traffic from Delaware's system. I have not heard of any interference to Delaware's system yet. For the past 2 months on the weekends, this system comes in pretty good considering the distance. I am using a cellular antenna on the 785/796. Imagine if I were to use a Yagi!

Hopefully, the system will be tuned correctly so residents of Fauquier County can use and hear the system. I would hate to see the system work better out of state than in Fauquier County.

Fauquier System Is Totally Online

The system went online at 1st of Nov. Low band radio being removed from vehicles. As the new radios have been installed. They no longer use any low band channels except for the ones that where dispatch channels which they are using for simulcasts for 1 year, and then they go dead. Time for me to fork out some money for a Pro 96 before they go dead.

I am currently out of state so I have not monitored the system for the last couple of weeks. I hope the signal is stonger than when I left. I know this is a big county but for the taxpayer money spent, we should be getting >90% coverage.

As far as getting the new radio, I have enjoyed scanning much more since most of the NVA localities have moved to trunked systems. I find that you have more control over what you want to hear and it is easier to indentify what you are listiening to. So if you enjoy scanning, it's money worth spent.

494.4375 Simulcast

the UHF simulcast is loud and clear here in Spotsylvania. I was never able to pick up the low band with an indoor antenna.

What Freqs are what?

If want to monitor all the Fire channels, what do I put in my scanner?
I printed the info here but don't understand it. If the dispatcher tells the units that the incident in on 11B what Fequency is that?
I got that I can monitor on 45.5 but the units are not simulcast.

Thanx :?

Well, first, you must have a trunking scanner to monitor the Fauquier communications now. In case that you don't have one, Fauquier is also simulcasting fire dispatch traffic on 494.4375 MHz.

When the units are told to switch to "11B," they're not switching to a frequency, they're switching talkgroups. A talkgroup can use any/all of the frequencies listed during the course of a conversation.

If you're new to trunking, there's a lot of valuable information on this site about how trunking works, different types of scanners, and the like. Please don't hesitate to ask, we'll try to help if we can!

11A/11B are both simulcast on the dispatch/alert freq of 494.4375 and on old dispatch low band 46.50 until that on breaks (it breaks quite frequently) and wont be repaired. All other "11" channels/groups wont be simulcast, you have to hear those on the new system.
