I set up a favorite list of my local Police Departments. Works great. Added my State Police and it's in Sentinel it's in the scanner but it does not scan that department. I have made sure Monitor and write are on. I've assigned keys. I have made sure the services are checked and it still won't work. SSSSSSOOOOOO frustrated I want to throw my new scanner. PLEASE PLEASE help.

Are the State Police using a trunked system? And, if so, did you add the sites for the area? Are they on the same system as your local PD?

What is your location? City (or county) and state are sufficient.

You are going to get a lot further in getting help if you give us more info.

Yes - to what question I asked?
You have been asked the state/county where you want to monitor.

Chesapeake shows to be on this system:

Portsmouth is on a different one:

Norfolk shows yet another different system:

Virginia Beach on yet another different system:
I do see some Portsmouth talkgroups on this ine as well,

Your state police should be on the statewide system, STARTS/

Not being in your state, I can't be sure of who uses how much of each system. I would suggest that you request that your thread be moved to your state (Virginia) forum. That way, someone more local to you would be better able to help you sort out exactly what you do need.

To have your post moved, click on the Report link in the lower left corner of your post. Then, request that a moderator nove the thread to your state forum.

Virginia STARS is what you want for VSP. I would create a Favorites List for your local agencies and a separate one for STARS. Chesapeake channels (Division 5) is the area you are in.

What scanner are you using? I'm guessing an SDS100/ 200 or a 436/536. If you are basically stationary with it, select only 1 or 2 of the closest sites for a control channel. If you load too many, it wastes time scanning control channels that are out of range. Another option is to use Location Control in Sentinel and enter your zip code and allow the scanner to select your sites. But if you do this, I would choose a range close to 0 miles (less can be more).

And lastly, if it is a database scanner, I would turn your Database to Off and scan only your Favorites Lists. A lot of the times the database will scan too many frequencies and systems. And it sounds like this is not a problem for you, but it would be worthwhile to check your Service Tags to make sure you have selected the Services you want to receive.
