FBI APCO 25 Frequencies

I have been told that the FBI use about 5-6 frequencies in the Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley areas that are usually "in the clear." The tech who gave me this info said he didn't remember the frequencies (right?). If any of my colleagues on this site have this information, please send a PM. If its an APCO25 system then they dont have freqs. They have talk group ID's If you know the local controller freq for nearest tower then run scanner in OPEN mode with all known ID's locked out. Then anything new can be spotted within a nano second. That the way we do it here in SC. Works perfect.

I think they are refering to digital conventional freqs, not a trunked radio system.

Sometimes here in Colorado an agent or the base will "forget" to set their radio to DES. Very seldom do you here both sides in the clear. If they are doing a sensitive ops, you will NEVER monitor anything, which is the way it should be.

FBI in our area is not using APCO25 modulation. (Unlike DEA, USCS, ATF, TSA)

Mabey they will in the future as the fed's are moving this direction. We are still stuck with DES for almost all comms.

When they move to APCO25 you can bet they will be encrypted full time on the repeater outs like 168.425.

Once in awhile you hear clear comms especially on the "National" fed channels operating simplex.

Where are the channels at? Check 163-164 and 167-168 12.5 steps for most of the channels. Google the rest.

Remember, most of these users are 9-5 ers so evening monitoring is a bit spotty and when big ops are going down they go simplex or Nextel....usually.
