Howdy, everyone!

Whilst doing the second of my daily scans of 162.575 to 173.9975, I happened across some very busy usage of 163.620 and it was P25 traffic. The time was in the latter half of the 4p hour and most of the 5p hour.

After programming my scanner to listen, it sure sounded like LE-type activity - the units were tailing a suspect vehicle and monitoring one of the suspects getting out at a McDonald's.

99% of the traffic was unencrypted, but there were some ENCrypted transmissions - the NAC was 793, 500 higher than the default 293.

The exchanges were certainly interesting to listen to - that usual "precision" you'd expect in Federal-type communications.

Still nothing more than 172.7750 out of SE Nebraska! :*(

According to Federal Govt. Scanner Frequencies, it looks like this might've been Immigration-type traffic. One of the suspect's name was definitely of latino origin...

You might want to add the forgotten portion of the high end of the VHF to your searches. 162-162.3750 ;)

163.6250 would be the proper Freq
and that freq is a typical CBP / BP / ICE Channel [actual user varies by region]

Howdy, 'escp92'!

Thanks for the tip - good point!

Actually, my secondary scan bank is set for 154.0000 to 162.375, which definitely includes the range you specified! Both ranges allow me to cover 154.000 to 173.9975, minus the NOAA part of the band, and not miss anything.

Considering the heavy usage of VHF in the eastern part of Nebraska and neighboring western Iowa, no one around here expects to see new sites pop-up in the lower half of the band, rather I'm pretty sure they'll show-up in the 170 - 173.9975 range.

Thanks for the tip and have a GREAT day!
