Saw this vehicle today at a HazMat call at the bank. It had blue and red strobe bars in the back window of the shell and a bunch of blue/red strobes in the front. One antenna on top looked like 800 MHz that Albemarle uses, I know the FBI had the old Alb. UHF system in their cars because I had heard them. Didn't hear them this time, but I did hear the initial call. It was not too far from my house.

Call was for a gray powder that fell from an envelope that was in the ATM machine. EMS and HazMat cleared from the incident in about an hour so I dont think it was too serious. Details at 6 and 11...

Took pix of a Customs SUV today, and Customs called me at work to ask what I was doing. I told them. I'll let you all know if there are any resulting indictments.

It had plain old VA tags as have the few FBI cars I've seen here before. I thought about going around the block again to get more pictures but they were all standing around outside the bank. Nothing on TV last night or this AM or in the paper that I saw.

Lets hope it is not illegal to take pictures on the street now...

What's the purpose in taking a picture of an undercover car and publicly posting it for all to see?

Normally nothing is gained, but there are some times when the publicity might do something. I've had two incidents with unmarked police cars.

The first in Dayton. Driving down a four lane road that narrowed past a light. Had a beatup old car come racing up behind me, flashing its lights and such. I was in a school zone approaching a red light. I didn't move. Car pulled next to me at the light and tried to cut me off before the lane narrowed (Dayton allowed some parallel parking on this road). When I got past the parked cars I pulled over. Beat up car raced up, slowed down and the driver flashed his badge at me. Bad move by the cop. I got the plate and reported him to IAD.

Second was in Maryland returning from a business trip to NJ. About ten miles into MD, going south on I-95, going with the flow (read over the speed limit). I was in the far left lane and sensed a car coming up on the left. I looked over and there was a Crown Vic with a blue light on the dash passing everyone in the MEDIAN. The unmarked car had NJ plates (running code in Maryland).

This one took two calls. First to 9-1-1 who sort of blew me off. The second to MD state police IAD the next day. They wanted to blow me off, but when I reitereated an out of state plate doing the 100+ in the median, even this cop agreed it was out of line. He investigated and called me back. Seems the FBI had some kind of incident and were bringing in other agents to help (from over 90 miles away????, even at 100MPH that is still nearly an hour).

Both cars really needed to have their photos taken and published (along with their drivers). Post office wall sounds like the ideal location.

Ok, so the FBI unit was responding to a call-out to an incident 90 miles away?
If it was an incident so serious as to require the call of a unit from such a distance, then maybe he DID need to get there in an emergency fashion.
Before anyone should ask, yes I HAVE had to pass people in the median grass when they refuse to get out of the way (that's considered "Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle", guys) or think that it's cute, in a "Smokey and the Bandit" kind of way to block a law enforcement vehicle from overtaking a violator by slowing down in the left lane when the officer's vehicle is approaching from behind. It happens. Even when it isn't a violator I'm overtaking, but going to a crash with grave injuries or to a "officer needs help" call. I have had drivers to roll to a complete stop in front of me on the interstate - IN THE TRAVEL LANE!! - when I was approaching them with emergency equipment activated. I wouldn't mention it, but it has happened more than once...thus necessitating me to pass them in the median.

All I was trying to say, before I so rudely interrupted myself, is maybe the officer is running an emergency response because of an emergency.

And, with respect to the O/P...publishing photos of covert LE cars, though not illegal, may possibly jeopardize an investigation, or some cop's safety. Just food for thought.

Again - what good publicity is there from publishing a picture of an undercover, unmarked, FBI pickup truck? There was no "incident" that needed reporting, there's no "safety of other drivers" issue here. He spotted an undercover car, and published the picture for all to see.

Not good, not smart, not something I'd expect on this forum...

I've never understood why some of these threads on RR turn into bashing law enforcement.

I got called here <sigh>.

Seems like there is concern that that picture is somehow improper. I have to tell you, that based on what I can see, it looks like every 5th or 6th vehicle on the streets here in Amarillo. ;)

Seriously guys, that is a picture of a pickup truck, it looks like every other black Silverado extended cab with a shell on the back. If it was distinctive in some way that *may* be a different story. I mean I remember a blue VW micro bus with big colorful daisies on the side, a picture of that and a location might have meant something, but that up there forget it.

Because he wanted to, what's your purpose for being the way you are?

I was not aware that undercover vehicles have blue lights installed.

That would seem to be pretty difficult to explain during an undercover operation.

Yeah seriously, if he saw light bars in back window and an antenna on top, I think most ppl would know it's an undercover car of some sort. It's not like he told us a secret. lol.

you guys are mistaking an under cover car for an UNMARKED car. i cant believe someone actually called on an admin to come in this thread. how big a loser are you to do that? its a truck. from this angle you cant see lights, hell you can barely see the antenna. looks like ever other GM style work truck in my area. someone on here really needs to lighten up and chill. i could understand if it was a pic of 3 UCO's making a buy and there id's were being given away as PD but its just a truck.

WOW! I can't believe my one little picture got the admin police called on me! Everybody else posts them or talks about them. Yes, there were no particular identifying features like license plate numbers. It may have been FBI or city pd, or a state police unmarked unit. I have seen them in some unusual vehicles lately including trucks and one in a Honda Accord. I certainly don't intend to jeopordize anyone's safety, as you should know motorhead, but if it was someone wishing to remain covert, he shouldn't have parked in the middle of the street with all of his lights going, he should have pulled into the bank parking lot real low-key like.

RE: the units responding from 90 miles away -- I remember a certain day last April when people were responding to Blacksburg from all over the state, I saw many of them flying by on I-64 that day.

As for you rdale: you're not welcome to come here and insult our intelligence, just stay in Michigan.
