FBI repeater sending out repeated tones..., then what sounds like DES crypto...

the only other time i noted this pattern was when a BIG bust went down (SAPD drug-running cops were arrested).

they don't do this for bank robberies...

anyone?

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
I saw a special on TV years ago about bank robberies in Los Angeles and they showed a lady dispatcher at the FBI office that, when a robbery had taken place, sent out paging tones followed by a description of the robbery and what units she wanted to respond. Almost like a fire department dispatcher would do. This was years and years ago, but this is probably how it's still done.

It was a great show - I think it was a 20/20 thing or a 48Hours special.

I could be an OTAR message (Over The Air Re-keying/Reprogramming).

Does it sound like tone that's being received on a radio with priority. (long tone with breaks) and some secure data hash?

They may be keying all radios in that secure group to the same key.

No, the repeater is sending out a series of alerting tones every 5 minutes or so. "Doop Doop Doop Doop Doop Doop Doop Doop Doop"

It's not OTAR and it's been active for a few days now.

FBI/Fed channels in SA

I was wondering what this particular frequency is? Also, I am new to SA and was wondering where I might find a list of Fed Channels in SA area?

Thank You!

That is odd. Our local DEA repeater started transmitting a series of clicks. It was just dead air with click, click, etc... about two a second. This went on for months at random times. I never did figure that one out.

You always hear odd stuff on Fed freqs.

mancow, was the DEA a _networked_ trunked system?

or just standard VHF/UHF?

there is a kindof "clicking" that takes place on Motorola Smartzone Systems, but it's more like an LTR burst...

I don't think so. It's a regular channel 2 418.900 repeater. I have however heard them patch it with other repeaters clear into other states in years past. Maybe that system had something to do with it?

No response?

I posted a couple of questions earlier today. I see there are no answers to those questions.

Remod,

Check out the "RR Database" on this site. It's pretty much one-stop shopping for frequencies (and not just for SA!).

Welcome to the neighborhood.

The Fed's always do the newest, latest and Greatest thing out there. Data being sent in between voice is somewhat new, but somewhat old too, and, a Wonderful way to shoot out Text messaging to a Pager or wireless device in between voice sylables.

The other avenue to be examined is this: Might they be using (In Digital Mode) Text to Voice, or Voice to Text? with the voice being encoded on the transmission side then decoded on the Wireless device. then the Carrier of the signal would just have some sort of Data sound.

Technology is a bummer!

Just a thought, or am I too far in the future by stating this
