I am a ham. Never experienced any big emergencies, but keep major area ham repeaters programmed in and I would also recommend the national 2 meter simplex freq 146.5200 MHz. That is a common simplex calling frequency. May be of some use.
I will see if I can dig up some ham radio info for the Brooklyn area
