I manage the radio system for our local fire department. We are looking at implementing UHF P25 simplex fireground channels. We operate day to day on a conventional VHF analog system. We have installed vehicular repeaters in apparatus. The repeaters tie VHF main system to UHF fireground simplex channel.

When FDNY operates on UHF fireground channels are there vehicular repeaters possibly on BC vehicles or apparatus that retransmit UHF fireground traffic into the main radio system for the Dispatch Center to monitor? Or is the fireground traffic local only?

Do BCs and Incident Commanders utilize a COMMAND channel for communications with their Dispatch Center?

Thank You

Eric

I would stay away from simplex P25 for fireground. Analog simplex is the best bet.
The division vehicles do have radios to retransmit fireground on the citywide trunking system. The TG’s on the trunking system are encrypted.
