FDNY special units may be dispatched on Citywide, but will then switch to borough frequencies where they are needed.
FDNY units are not normally dispatched over the radio, unless they happen to be out of quarters.
The dispatcher will always send a ticket to the teleprinter in the firehouse, and if not acknowleged, they will call the unit on the department radio, and give them the run.
The book says that all units will monitor their assigned borough frequency, then if they go to another borough they will change to that borough. Some units despite the books will be on citywide, until called then switch to the borough of the emergency.
There are a few exceptions to this: marine 3 monitors Queens even though they are in Brooklyn, Marine 4 monitors Bronx even though they are in Queens. Marine 3 wil sometimes monitor SI because it's hard to raise Queens from Great Kills which is part of their response area.
