Feb 26 Pursuit in FFX Co

Being the weekend, I had a feeling there would be a chase tonight. So as I always do on the weekend, I left my scanner on while I slept. A little before 3 a.m. I was woken by the sound of sirens and I set my computer to record.

As far as I could tell it sounded like they were chasing the suspect of an armed robbery in Maryland. The .wav picks up just after the suspect exited the Beltway where a trooper had reported speeds in excess of 100mph.

The .wav is about 19 minutes long (2.2Mb).

are you sure?

Are you sure the speed was in excess on 10 mph vice 100 mph on the beltway? Sometimes 10mph is great. At least you're moving. I can't imagine anywhere on the beltway anyone could go in excess of 100 mph and if so for very long without smashing into someone or something.

That's pretty cool. I see lots of apps. that record audio but one that is voice activated would be great. Is that what you used?

It was 3 a.m. Have you ever been on the beltway at 3 a.m. ? It's a totally different road. Still, even prior to rush hour the average speed is 70-75mph.

I was the supervisor working in Fairfax during the chase. That chase started in Frederick Md by a Frederick Deputy who saw a large wad of cash in the car and realized they were robbery suspects. They fled down I270 to I495, into Va to Rt236 into Alexandria, back into Fairfax and Rt236 West, they turned off just east of Fairfax City and evenutally wrecked deep into a residential area. Chase lasted over an hour and the whole time Trooper 3 from MSP then Fairfax 1 were overhead. It was kinda hairy becuase like you say they were in excess of 100mph while on the interstate and probably almost as fast on Rt236, but traffic was light and nobidy but the bad guy was injured. The guy was wanted in 4 states for various armed robberies
