Hi. Anyone know of any interesting Federal Agencies in this area to program and listen to? Just asking as I have had those times when I got all excited about something, programmed it all in, and "nothing." Examples such as the FBI, Customs, etc. would be great if anyone knows of something worth listening to. Thanks. Greg

Before I run...I have bought the DMR program for my 436. Never plugged one in as I'm not sure how to; I know I must read up on how to do this. Again, any simple DMR sites around here worth learning how to program. I'm not asking for anyone to guide me in on how to do it, ..just looking for good stuff you would recommend. Thanks again.

Yes. I always use the database. I also know there are some agencies listed but very little action. I was asking for recommendations from others who have had good luck with some Federal Departments worth downloading. For example, there are many FBI frequencies in the database, but do they really pick up anything? Thank you for the link.

Unless you live near a big city you wont hear much and most is encrypted. You could try and put the frequencies in and put those on priority. If you have a BCD-436HP you can put it in Priority DND this way if theres no action and they key up,you will get a hit.If no frequencies are listed, try using Dallas area frequencies for desired one you want to hear.

I have always found it best to just Search myself.and see what is out there.
Too many folks are so quick to say ENC don't bother

Depending on your exact location you might find stuff others have not found.

Try it, post back [very few ever do] what you find after a week or month

Program all discrete frequencies listed in this Thread:

https://forums.radioreference.com/federal-monitoring-forum/193602-fbi-chicago.html

Do not program a Tone or NAC.

Most activity is between 162 mHz and 174 mHz. Search for additional active frequencies not listed. Local surveillance activity often occurs simplex (same transmit and receive frequency), the monitoring receiver will need to be in close proximity to the transmitting radio(s) to receive signals.

Thanks to all above. The links were very helpful, and I will use my 996T or 536 to scan/search those frequencies. You know, I bought my first scanner in 1972 in York PA. There was no real thinking involved; I put 8 crystals into 8 slots and they all worked perfectly. :D I was a trained volunteer fire fighter but left it for Law Enforcement. I never use my scanners for their full potential today; basically just download a few databases and enjoy. I'll scan for whatever is out there and it will be new for me...for the most part. I will get back and let you know what I find for sure. Thanks again! Greg
