Kudos to him.

It's interesting to note that people are saying there's a federal law that allows it. Usually its a challenge to get the permit to put one up.

One person's eyesore is another's object of beauty.

I had the same problem with my nine foot sat dish in my backyard. My nieghbor called everyone in the city to have it taken down, but it stayed up.

Bob (WA5VSK) has something new in the neighborhood and not everyone likes it.

See video from KCBD TV channel 11 in Lubbock, Texas.

Someone else pointed that out to me, as they know I live in a sub that has restrictions. Unfortunately I don't think it stands up for scanner hobbiest...only amateur radio operators. Yet another reason to get off my butt and get a ham license.

Put one up and Just tell em it's a part of the new homeland security in your subdivision.

I still like the heading:
" A ham radio antenna angers little old ladies in exclusive neighborhood."
Maybe they need something better to do or get a real life! :p

I would say tv antenna's are not covered. The city of Salinas was able to make my nieghbors take down the tv antenna's.The house was built in 1997 and the city said no tv antenna's on your property. That was why my neighbors were mad about the sat dish becuase the feds ruled you cannot stop a person from receiving sat signals.

doesn't it go for TV antenna's as well?

Good thing the FCC backs up all of us Hams and our antennas!! Now if I could only get them to over ride my wifes rule of no antennas on the house or towers around the house I would be all set.....

I think satellite dishes are covered. Not the giant 10' dishes, but the small ones like Direct TV, Dish Network, etc.

Say what you will but that's an eyesore.
But it's not possible to put up a smaller antenna for that frequency with that amount of gain - which is all the law is concerned with. There must be a reasonable accommodation of the ham's needs.

So with that said for his individual rights, there should also be a reasonable accomodation for the other homeowners to not have to look at that eyesore everyday.

It's called a neck and it moves in about 170°, mostly to rotate a larger round object attached to it. :)

The FCC feels that a group of people well trained in emergency communications is more important to the citizenry than the refusal of a few people to overlook what, to them, is an eyesore. Read the document Tom posted the link to - they give a full explanation of the reasoning behind the decision.

(I think Katrina kind of proved their point.)
