Federal frequencies

Are the Fed systems using the same freq's nationwide, or do they have different freq's in different areas?

I'm interested in the the USSS, Marshals and FBI. I'm just wondering the same freqs I see for the left and right coast hold true for the midwest also.

There are a number of "common" freqs - but most are area-specific. Having spent a number of years in DC, I can tell you that nearly all interesting traffic on FBI/USSS freqs gets encrypted. You'll only hear some sporadic clear comms. Unsure about the Marshall Service. There are actually a few good boards you can google for to get a list of common freqs...these seem to have more "clear" traffic.

On the Gulf Coast, most of the comms you'll hear here are US Customs / Immigration. The freqs they use hear for certain activities are different than used in other areas. As far as interoperability goes, many of the agents new are using Nextel to communcate to other agencies. Customs uses them here to communicate with ATF, DEA, and so forth. I can't say I've head anything on the "interop" channels designated. Good luck with your research!

Rumor has it that out here in Phoenix, they have their own "deck" of channels on our shiny new trunked system. Of course it's all encrypted so no telling if that's true or what they're chatting about. Makes sense though as there's plenty of press releases talking about the "beta test" of the new system here that mention the FBI as a user of the system.

I think that's funny... "beta test". What a bargain to be able to pay $70+ million bucks to participate in a "beta test". :lol:
