Federal new narrowband

Anyone have a website, or a listing of the new federal narrowband that will be comming into full play in January?? I would love to find out what the USFS will be moving to, and what changes if any the would take place to the Natchez Trace National Parkway system.

I hope this chart is what you are looking for and from what I see the USFS (they're in the 170's ,right?) will have to have radios comply with the 12.5 kHz ruling.

They operate in the 160's, 170's,.. so will be watching and listening for changes,.. As to where I was,.. my old 20 Gig HD died, so I had to buy me a new 40 Gigger,...

They way it was put was anything new must be capable of operating on nfm. Nothing firm has been said about when we have to stop using the exisiting equipment. If fact the memo I got this week said a request for UHF frequencies has been submitted and the existing VHF assignemnts will continue to be used until the new assignments are made and equipment for those frequencies has been budgeted and procurred.

Now we all know how the federal govt works. It will take between 6 months and two years for the new frequency assignment to be approved and then at least two more years for funds to be budgeted to buy the new equipment. Then the bidding process can start which will take another 6-24 months. Since I only have 5 years left before retirement I doubt I will see the new equipment befor I go.

At least I did get to see the new TRS installed and most of our operations have moved to it.

I listen to the NPS Natchez Trace system too. Weird being all the way in Tennessee and hearing units make traffic stops in Mississippi. Now before I get flamed, I don't live in the part of Tennessee that is adjacent to Mississippi, and I know that it is a multi-cast relayed system. It just sounds weird being up in Middle Tennesse where the trace runs through and hearing units all the way in Tupelo.

Tupelo is the HQ for the entire operation with repeaters throughout MS, and TN, during the hours the Trace Dispatcher is 10-07, the operation is run by Lee County, MS Communications in addition to the Lee County/Tupelo TRS.

Thanks for the information that I have knew for several years. I remember talking to a Ranger when I first came to TN in 1991 who told me about the system. I believe the Lee County dispatch is unit 700.

And 701 They have been doing a lot of work on the system this year after it had some issues from all the wet weather last spring, it now sounds a lot better.

Yeah I hear them all the time stating that such tower is stuck on and such tower is out or the power or something all the time.
