I see these all over the country, all are expired or cancelled. What where these systems used for? Most I have seen were licenced for both data and voice. Where these for some early version of their tablet system or just plain voice repeaters? They clearly were wide area systems based on their locations, not something for a sorting facility.

I don't remember ever hearing anything on the ones in the places where I lived. It was probably mobile data.

In the mid '80s to mid '90s FedEx used a mobile data system designed by MA/COM specifically for FedEx on those licenses.

FedEx has since moved on to using cellular connectivity, the MA/COM system evolved into the Harris OpenSky system.
