Last night my department had a call of a serious nature and upon returning to quarters, we opted to download and listen to the feed archives as a learning tool. When doing so, it was clear that the call was split between 15 minute archives. This in itself wasn't a huge problem but what I found next was: There's a 3-4 minute gap between archives. This obviously not only resulted in a large amount of communications missing from the file but it also causes the times to be off. If there are missing segments between every file, 3 or 4 minutes per each archive adds up to large time discrepancies. The archive feature is fantastic, I just think it still needs some tweaking. So...

1. Is it possible for this gap to be fixed?
2. I know it has been stated before, but having them in local time would be excellent.
3. Are 15 minute intervals set in stone? Is there a way to choose? I'm not adverse to storing them locally either if there were a mechanism to do it.

My department uses these as a learning tool and we already appreciate all the work you have done. Thank you in advance.

I have noticed this also. I would guess that when the 15 minute archive is "archiving" to the website, the feed is not being recorded. I have always noted that the recorded audio is about 2 minutes behind our actual time. That gap is probably the reason for it.

I've noticed a small gap in between files, but never more than a few seconds (if a dispatch is just starting when it ends, it's usually ending as the next one starts).

It's possible the feed was just going up and down a lot.

I concur. Time gaps in the archive are almost always caused by the link between the receiving scanner and server being lost (for any number of reasons)

Has this issue of missing audio in between archive file segments ever been investigated? It is still very much a significant problem.

It is not related to the feed connection, as some have incorrectly speculated. The issue is entirely too consistent for it to be a fluke or related to the scanner/server connection. The significant chunks of audio are only missing in between the 15 minute archive file segments, nowhere else. I've confirmed with several feeds in different areas that audio indeed gets truncated by whatever process the server uses to save/split the archive files into 15 minute segments. You can listen to a feed live and never hear the connection drop, however when you review the archives of the same feed, the missing transmissions in between segments are readily apparent.

Hopefully this issue can be resolved soon!

As best I can calculate, it appears to truncate 10.2 seconds or so between archive segments. I know that sounds insignificant, but that works out to over 16 minutes lost per day.

Which feeds are experiencing this problem?
