Hi Folks,

RE: https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=755

The above reference FELHC (Ohio Edison / First Energy) 800 mhz Motorola Type II system referenced above is likely no longer active. However, it is still listed as active in our DB.

Many years ago they started dismantling this system. I had noted over the years that many sites which I used to be able to copy either disappeared or were put into Site Trunking mode (no longer networked).

At some point we deprecated this system (so it would not show up in the DB), based upon reports of no activity. But then there reports that some sites were still online, in Site Trunking mode, with some of those remaining sites still being active in Site Trunking but in other cases with no activity.

So I am asking you all to take a look at that system above. If you see any sites that you are _close_ to, would you please check those frequencies for the presence of an active 3600 baud Motorola control channel. [PLEASE, only do this IF you know you would be able to hear the site under normal conditions].

If you feel that one or more of the above sites is no longer active [based upon personal confirmation by monitoring after reading this thread], please click on the Submit button under that trunked system and let us know -- and/or post your findings here.

It is very likely that the vast majority of these sites have been completely dismantled and that the frequencies would be silent. But it is also possible that some may still be online, either in limited Site Trunking capacity or with zero activity [simply because they haven't gotten around to turning the site off].

Your help would be appreciated. We'd really like to fully remove this system from the database, knowing what we know, but we would really like confirmation from listeners [first hand monitoring] if possible.

Thanks!

Mike

Thanks to two submissions by individuals, it was determined that four sites were no longer online and were thus removed from the DB.

Those sites were Lorain, Medina, and two in Trumbull Co.

Remaining sites to be checked [as soon as somebody from those areas can do so] are:

Site 19 Shippingport / Beaver has been confirmed online, CC on 859 mhz and voice on other two freqs.

Per N8WEL on email, South Vienna, Marion, Bellepoint and Bethel sites were all offlined several years ago.

Shippingport is still operational because it's near the power plant.

Terry has been a close observer of Ohio Edison for years. . . . .

Rgr that. Probably on the chopping block soon though. They have a new trunked DMR license for Shippingport, but it's not active yet.

I recall hearing some time ago, that Ohio Edison was moving to the MARCS-IP system (of which some TGs have been added to the database under MARCS) but I recall also that some of the frequencies were going to transition over to the MARCS system.. Has that been confirmed or was it just a rumor. I'm not sure even where I heard that, but I think it was on here maybe sometime around the beginning of the year??

What you heard is correct. MARCS got a waiver from the FCC to permit OE to operate on the 700 MHz frequencies, but OE operations are supposed to normally stay on the 800 MHz frequencies (many of which will be OE-licensed frequencies from their old system, added to MARCS sites).
