I finished my install on my Comet 150-DS Discone antenna for my base station scanner (50 feet of RG-6 Quad Shield). Would a ferrite choke be a good addition to the coax to improve the quality of the reception? If so what type and size of ferrite choke should I order?

A string of maybe six of these is a good start and that should give at least 1,000 ohms choking impedance over the 100-1,000MHz range and more at some freqs. I've used three in series on some LED light leads that trashed the VHF/UHF band and that made a big difference. You can sometimes find deals on similar units on Ebay, look for a 43 mix ferrite that will fit over your coax with similar length.
