• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Thought it would be a good idea to publicize Field Day locations for this year.

For those who don't know what FD is, it is an annual exercise in amateur radio's ability to communicate, simulating less than ideal conditions. Stations usually are powered by generator and/or solar power. Stations will usually operate phone/cw with some digital and satellite ops. Clubs/groups generally set up in public places to demonstrate this. Most clubs set up an information booth and invite the public to visit that club's operating position(s) (if in a park during regular park hours) and to ask questions. Field Day runs from 1800z (2pm EST) June 24 through 1800z June 25.

Here is a list of clubs in SE Virginia with FD activities that I know of and their locations:

Virginia Beach ARC - Great Neck Park (Shorehaven Drive), Next to Great Neck Rec Center & near F.W. Cox HS.

Radio Amateur Society of Norfolk - Tarrallton Park on Tarrallton Drive.

Portsmouth ARC - Portsmouth City Park

Chesapeake Amateur Radio Service - Deep Creek Locks Park on George Washington Hwy

Southern Peninsula Radio Klub - Sandy Bottom Nature Park, on Big Bethel Road in Hampton.

Hams, publicize your club/group FD operation here! I hope to see some RR members out in Virginia Beach and Norfolk!
