Hi Jeffery,

In the late 50's, I was an RBN in the AC with GD on the tail, which was an all weather radar attack bomber. That AC was soon replaced by the A-6 Intruder. The GE "Guppy" was the navies carrier AWACS of the day and replaced by the current E2. Both AC's in the pic are on the AD5 "Able Dog" Skyraider airframe made by Douglas with the
R-3350 Engine which has two radial banks of 9 cylinders each. The engine was supercharged with three blowers - each centered at 120 degrees around the radial. In early '58, both squadrons were "kicked" out of Atlantic City (they wanted to build casinos and thought the planes were to noisy) and moved to Quonset Point NAS south of Providence RI on the "Gansett". My squadron also flew a "Jammer" version on the same airframe which was replaced by the EA-6, still in use today.
