My wife was heading to work around 1:00pm today, driving down Wilson Mills. She called and said there were 4 fighter jets flying in formation over Wilson Mills (Lyndhurst), headed west, probably about "medium" altitude.

I immediately turned on the BC780 and logged the following freqs. Not sure if the DEMONS tag is current. Anyone catch anything?

285.625 CLE ARTCC 1:02:51 PM
285.625 CLE ARTCC 1:03:29 PM
285.625 CLE ARTCC 1:03:38 PM
139.975 STINGS 1:04:57 PM
285.625 CLE ARTCC 1:07:41 PM
251.125 CLE ARTCC 1:09:00 PM
251.125 CLE ARTCC 1:09:17 PM
139.750 UNID 1:12:26 PM
139.750 UNID 1:13:26 PM
285.425 CLE ARTCC 2:31:28 PM
340.700 TOWER 2:45:38 PM
143.925 DEMONS 2:56:45 PM

Somehow I always miss the excitement. I didn't even have the radio on today...

I even (lamely) stuffed the kids in the SUV and took a drive to try and see something, to no avail. But I had the BC780 on and at least logged those freqs. I know the 251.125 is active, but this is the first time I ever heard activity on it. Plus, on a Saturday...?

DEMON tags our current, they are for the F-16s from Selfridge ANGB,MI (107thFS)
Well...I should mention that I also logged lots of transmissions on 119.6, which I have as a Selfridge approach frequency. I didn't include those in my post because I wasn't sure if those are just normal comms (i.e. is it related to what happens in this neck of the woods?)

Any idea about what "medium" altitude means??? I wonder what they were doing here in NE Ohio flying in formation, on a Saturday.

I always like to monitor both of Selfridge's approach freqs because when you catch the milcoms on the freqs it gives you an idea of whats going on.

Maybe a flyover for a sporting event....BGSU and Wisc were at playing in Cleveland. Or maybe another sporting event

Hey guys, just joined up so I thought I'd make my first post an informative one. Angels (read: altitude) Medium refers to anything between Angels 10 (10k ft.) and Angels 20 (20k ft.).

Thanks. By the way, "medium altitude" was my wife's assessment, so who knows what that really meant.

explain angels please... I know what it means but most dont.

Angels is altitude in thousands of feet and Cherubs is altitude in hundreds. So Angels 11 would be 11,000ft and Cherubs four means 400 feet.

Is the Angels/Cherubs terminology used in radio comms? I've only ever heard the standard "flight level" when military flights talk to CLE ARTCC.

Angels and Cherubs are brevity codes only used for mil-mil traffic most atc centers will not recognize angels as "flight level" is the appropriate terminology for atc... a few controlers will understand angels usuallly beacuse they have prior mil experience even though its not normally used for civil atc.
