I know this is kind of lame. But since my wife doesn't care to hear it, and I am so stoked about it, I thought I would let you all know. I log all the milair hits I have heard in my binder. Running through the list brings up a bunch of transport aircraft C-130's, C-12's, an E-6 or two. Well anyhow there are no fighters on the list. So I am pulling out of work and heard Reno approach talking with Bogey 11. I figure that call sign is just to cool for a transport. I had just started noting the name down on a piece of paper to look up later when Reno control asks "Bogey 11, am I correct that you are a five ship of F-5's correct?" Bogey 11 answered "affirmative!". My first fighter hit! So I run home and look up the callsign. VFA-127 "Desert Bogeys" out of NAS Fallon flying the F-5H. So if I bored the crud out of you, sorry but it was just so cool!

Thanks for listening!

That's awsome, man. Wish I could even get any MilAir hits around here lol. Granted I don't open my Military bank too often due to regular inactivity, but it would still be cool. Nice hit!

Inactivity?? Your not listening very much then. Dude, you got B-2's to the NW of you, air refueling tracks all around St Louis, and you even have F-15's for your ANG aircraft at Lambert Field. Not to mention Scott AFB to the east. I wish i had that kind of action. Now if you want inactivity come to Nashville. We have ANG C-130's but they maybe fly only two times a day. And that's it!!

The solution to a low activity frequency range is to monitor it all the time. Military traffic is sporadic in my area, but I catch a lot of it because I am always scanning the milair frequencies.

Nice catch...they are the aggressor squadron.

You guys ought to sit in my receiving area. Got Langley AFB, Navy Norfolk and Navy Oceana 24/7. Even catch a few coms during shuttle launches out of the cape.

Plus Boeing test flights. That right there is interesting enough. I think they're still working on the F-15K.

I get mil stuff pretty consistently and I'm just south of KC. Like they said the B2s are up quite a bit. I often hear them on 381.300. There are quite a few flights of A-10s and others on the Vhf am bands between 138 and 150 too. Try searching 138-140 and 148-150.

I've heard B2s, P3 Orions, KC-135s on 305.5, A10s, and trainers just a name a few.

Naah, its rare to get a hit around here. I have the mil-air open all the time and maybe once or twice a month Ill get a brief hit. The ANG doesnt fly enough to get hits all the time and we are too far from Scott to pick up anything. justinmr resides in the same area where I work which is a good 60+ miles from Scott. Once in a blue moon Ill catch the tanker and some chatter on the NORAD freqs but thats it. The B2's out of Whiteman? forget about it, no way we can get that traffic here.

Why can't you get B-2 traffic there? You got the right freqs in? I said we don't get any milair in Nashville but i was really refering to the actual airport traffic but overflights are a different story. I maybe hear B-2's every other day just flying over. If your not hearing them in the St Louis area then you don't have the right freqs in. The B-2 has a booming transmitter and 385.55, 318.05, 381.3 can be heard from a big distance if their at a good altitude. It's not just the local traffic, milair is the traffic all around us.

I was speaking of mil-air in general. But of course 12 hrs after I posted that, I was driving from work this afternoon and picked up an ANG flight getting clearance from STL tower.
It was great timing as I was approaching I-270 & I-70 when I spotted the 4 F-15s turning right for final.

381.3 is a good freq for anyone anywhere in the country to scan.

I have heard the callsign DEATH on there, which I believe is somebody's bomber callsign.

I hear B-2s flying over Seattle every couple of weeks. Sometimes they fly 20 hour missions, and that's not over Missouri all the time. Usually they talk to ATC on UHF.

If anyone has a 396 system file for Military ops of any kind for the St. Louis metro area, I'd love to have it. Maybe I just don't have good frequencies.

There's that bombing range next to Hwy-95S twords the Indian Reservations, south of Fallon NAS (south complex). You can see the large numbers and straight line to the targets (old trucks & tanks). There use to be a sign stating "Caution-Low Flying Aircraft" as you crest over a small rise on the highway. I've driven that stretch many times but never seen any jets in the area, nor any mil-air traffic. I've always wanted to pull over and wait for a while but it's so freakin HOT, that I would stop for only 10-15 mins. before continuing on. has anyone seen any jets dropping any ordinance at that place? It's still there so perhaps they fly on weekdays instead of weekends. If there were only some trees, then maybe one could stop for a while longer to see what happens.

fmon,

Wow, that was the late 50's. what were you flying, Sabres or F-104's??

I have an old friend that had an uncle who had a building named after him. I know it was inside Fallon NAS, but don't know which site. My friend tried finding out but he get's the normal run-around. The Navy wanted him to show up in person, produce some ID with the same name, then he might get some information. Do you know if it's normal to have buildings named after someone? Of course, one would have had to contribute something of importance to that effect. Does that name stick till the buiding is demolished? Just curious since the family moved to the East Coast. Some family relatives still live in San Jose, CA.
